Carole reads from Neh ch 7 the whole chapter but with out the genealogy. Colin continues in Nehemiah.

Many people today struggle with the meaning of life but Nehemiah 7 shows that genealogies are not just boring lists of names. These people counted for God and, to a certain degree, prove the authenticity of these records.

Once the walls were rebuilt, Nehemiah sought divine guidance for the repopulation of Jerusalem but he also consulted these lists. He set his priorities in seeking protection for the city, people to lead the worship and the Levites to teach the Scriptures. He chose reliable and respected colleagues to administer the city.

These people mattered to God, as do we. Our priorities need to be the same as theirs. Being God’s people in the place of God’s choosing doing God’s work. We cannot do better than that.
