Carole reads this week from Nehemiah Ch 9 and Colin continues in his series in Nehemiah. In this chapter, we find true repentance, true confession, with no ‘if’s’ and no ‘but’s!’ It’s the longest prayer in the Bible and serves as a model for all our prayers. Two days after the Feast of Tabernacles the people gathered again, this time with fasting, sackcloth and dust on their head to express grief over their sin.

Their prayer followed the following pattern:

1.   The Greatness of God v.1-6 – whilst acknowledging their sin, they recognized God’s awesomeness

2.   The Goodness of God v.7-30 – quoting Scripture, they acknowledged his mercy despite their sin

3.   The Grace of God v.31-37 – the gave thanks for his grace and pleaded for him to hear them again

We would do well to respond to God in the same vein.
