This week Chris reads chapter 3 verse's 22 to 36 of Johns Gospel. Colin is our speaker today. People are always trying to compete with others – even within churches. John the Baptist did not. Instead of trying to make a name for himself, he readily accepted that he was the best man and that Jesus was the bridegroom. This passage describes the jealousy of John’s disciples that Jesus’ disciples were invading their territory. John sets them straight. He states that they only had what they had been given and that Jesus was always destined to be number one. He accepted that fact and was happy to retreat into the background.
