This week Carole reads from John gospel, Ch 10 ver 1 - 21. The third of Jesus’ “I am” declarations, “I am the good shepherd” follows hard on the heels of the healed blind man’s expulsion from the temple. His so-called “shepherds” cared more about the rites and ceremonies of their religion than for the flock they were called upon to shepherd. This contrasts sharply with Jesus who knows his sheep by name, guides, leads, feeds and protects them. His ultimate aim is to have one flock and one shepherd – he who was to give his life for his sheep. His message will, inevitably, bring about the same divisions today as it did when he was alive.
